When you look inside the hardcover you could see brown subtitles ...

while in leather version subtitles are blue.

But , that is not all ....

the books do not have same number of pages.

Let us look inside the Croatian edition of Franciscan Bible. 

There are not many Croatian translations of the Bible. Edition from KS (Kršćanska Sadašnjost) is the most common, and it has not been changed for a while until Franciscan Bible which is actually the older and neglected and refreshingly different translation of holy scriptures that came to life thanks to Naša ognjišta, Hrvatski biblijsko društvo i Kršćanska sadašnjost.

Printed in China ....

on very thin paper looks surprisingly well made ...

especially the binding.

 Stitching is visible.

Looking at the content page you see the difference from other Croatian translations.

Names of the books are different ....

maybe weird. 

But it is a actually a good thing ....

especially if you are bibliophile.

The other good thing are the full commentaries from KS Bible placed as a footnotes instead of end notes.

I prefer  this binding over hardcover edition because it is more durable ...

and easier to hold in your hands.

Leather would be better choice but that is one of the best  in Croatia.

The Bible comes wrapped in plastic.

 

Cover of the book is made of  artificial material that imitates leather.

 

Visually it is not quite noticeable ... 

 

but when you touch the covers....

 

you can not avoid  rubbery, artificial feel.

Golden edges and imprints on front cover and the spine  .... 

give this book a nice quality touch.

Inside look reveals plasticized end-paper.

Paste-down end-sheet is glued 

in a way that overlaps the edges of cover material.

 

It is a good book design practice but ...

the traces of poor craftsmenship are inevitable.

 

Besides minor  aesthetics, the Bible is very well built ...

durable and easy to hold in your hand.

make this book a real pleasure to watch ...

 

 and softness of the leather ....

makes even better pleasure to ....

hold in your hands.
